Pennine Way Primary School

Music

At Pennine Way Primary School, we believe that music should inspire creativity, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of performing and listening. We teach music through the Charanga curriculum, which provides a progressive programme of learning that develops pupils’ skills in singing, performing, composing and appraising music. Through engaging lessons, children explore a wide range of musical styles and traditions while building their understanding of rhythm, pitch, tempo and musical notation. Our curriculum encourages all pupils to express themselves creatively and develop an appreciation of music from different cultures and genres.

Music plays an important role in school life, and we provide pupils with exciting opportunities to perform and develop their talents beyond the classroom. We are proud to take part in Rocksteady, which gives children the chance to perform in bands and learn key musical skills in a fun and engaging way. We also participate in Young Voices, allowing pupils to join thousands of children from across the country in a memorable large-scale choir performance. These experiences help build confidence, teamwork and a love of music, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to experience the enjoyment and achievement that music can bring.
